Sampans

Sampans on a river in Quang Tri Province. It's late afternoon hence the rather hard light coming off the water. I told Vu the driver that I thought it seemed an idyllic lifestyle. Not so, he says, there's nowhere to go when you have a family argument.

Now I know that 'sampan' comes from the Chinese word, san pan, meaning "three planks" and refers to the hull design - one plank on the bottom and one on either side.
