Calendar project
I've agreed to help produce a calendar for a local church, which will be based on the various vestments used by the priests. Yesterday I did a quick lighting test at home (yesterday's Blip), but I was severely limited by the space available. Today I tackled the real project in the church, and was dismayed to find that although there was a lot more space than in my living room, there was still nothing like enough to get things as I wanted them. The main limitation was on width - the only space wide enough to get the lights anywhere near the right angle for the subject (though still not what I wanted) meant that the mannequin had to stand on the main floor, with the background on the altar steps, making it impossible to light the background properly. A lot more work is going to be needed in Photoshop - I've exhausted the Lightroom controls. Of course the aspect ratio of the pictures is going to present a challenge in terms of designing the calendar as well.
The people from the church decided the bottom of the stand of the mannequin should be concealed by a cloth - I didn't agree, and personally I much prefer this shot, with the base of the wooden stand visible, to all the others where a crumpled cloth 'conceals' it!
It's hard work, but I'm enjoying it!
