Vulcan

Named after the Roman god of forge and fire, the design of the original 63-foot-long vessel was considered revolutionary when it was launched on the Monkland Canal in 1819. It was the the world’s first iron-hulled boat, and a boost to Scotland's shipbuilding industry.

It was horse-drawn along the Forth & Clyde Canal.

This is actually a full scale replica made for the Glasgow Garden Festival in 1986. A few months ago it completed a £300,000 restoration job and is now based on the Canal at Summerlee. .
