Tower birthday

I go past this round tower several times a week. I passed it today as I returned from time spent at Coppeen school.
The round tower at Kinneigh is unusual because it has a hexagonal base. It was built on a site where previously a monastery was based.
Its history is not precisely documented but historians now believe it was built close to the time of the battle of Clontarf. If they are right — and who are I to argue — then it is 1,000 years old this year!
So far, it is having a quiet birthday!
