Beauty
After heavy rain, late afternoon at Ullswater from Gowbarrow
Beauty
The light shines through you
Like sun shining through sea glass
Warmly diffusing across the earth.
A medium for that pure brilliance
Which would otherwise be
Too much for this world.
You arrived on a high tide
Mediated by faulty humanity
Real and more beautiful for that.
Flooding the spaces between
all those separate places
Becoming an unbroken bonding
of land, sea and sky.
And now,
the permanent ebb
the tawdry tide mark
of chaotic flotsam and jetsom
that remains left behind.
The sunspot has gone
and the cold winter sun shines on.
