Last of the....

....Autumnal moths? maybe
It rained today, and along with this the Doctor confirmed I have labrynthitis and signed me off work for a week!
I feel quite ambivalent about it all, on the one hand I can see bottles of acid etc and dizzyness do NOT mix,for health and safety reasons, but I really miss work and everyone there, and I really feel I am letting the side down!
Not a good place to be, but I can also see resting and getting properly better is also a good move.
The VERY autumnal weather makes me wonder if this might be the last of the beautiful moths I will be able to catch this year, as it is scarcely worth running it when the weather is freezing!
That said It has been a very good year and I have caught some very nice moths, especially since I have had this new trap, I can't wait till next year!
These two are a Broad-bordered yellow underwing Noctua fimbriata, and a Black rustic Aporophyla nigra.
The black rustic has longish wings and shows little variation in colour, and this one was a male with white hindwings. It flies in September and October, and is fairly common in the South. The Broad-bordered yellow underwing is also common in England, flying between July and September. It shows marked sexual dimorphism, with the males being a dark brown in colour and the females (like this one) orangey-buff.
For once I can tell the sex of both moths!
