Life is a Balancing Act

Some people have more to balance than others. Some live much closer to the edge than others.

This is the first time I'd met Donna without her sparky young daughter in tow. She's just started school and is being sorely missed. It's left a bit of a vacuum but it's good to see that Donna's looking to fill it in a positive way. Good on you. You're doing well girl.

The weather was so awful this morning that not one stall holder at the market bothered to turn up. I've never seen the Square so deserted on a Monday. My day was pretty awful too - not in a serious way, just a tedious one. The highlight, as it so often is, was still managing to get a couple of a decent photographs (this candid shot and a portrait of the remarkable Progress from Zimbabwe) despite the lack of time and activity at lunchtime today.

I've just come across Danny Macaskill's latest film, from the Isle of Skye: The Ridge. It's his most incredible yet, and certainly the most beautiful. If you've not yet come across it (or him) then I can guarantee that it's absolutely worth seven minutes of your life. Or your money back! Utterly awe-inspiring and mind-blowing. If you've had a dusty old day at the office this will certainly help blow the cobwebs of your life away. The link also proves to be remarkably apt in the context of the title of this blip. That was a complete coincidence.

Postscript: Having just watched the video again I found myself getting quite emotional. It's that combination of the raw beauty of the landscape, the haunting grace of the music, and Danny's incredible skill and self-belief. I was sat agape. And I use that word in its original meaning. I don't think there is any other word to describe the feeling. It's a shame it's fallen into disuse.
