Prisoner's of War in 1919
To celebrate the Millennium, a book about Rippingale was compiled by 2 villagers (Rosetta Atkinson and Pat Cottam) and in it, among many other photos, are these two which a friend, who has been working on a commemoration of the First World War, asked me to photograph again for his exhibition. The images are photographed from the book, and the graininess is the texture of the paper.
During the First World War, 56 prisoners of war were billeted in Rippingale. The villagers gave them a Christmas Party and the men gave concert parties in the village hall. The first photo shows some of the Prisoners of War, and the second shows The Concert Party (April 19th 1919).
