Burning Olive Prunings

A neighbour burns the branches of recently pruned olive trees. The smoke rises slowly and hangs in the heavy air. The corrugated strips below are grape vines on a very steep terrace.

The soil on the hillsides is very poor and every scrap of viable land is used. Our own vegetable garden is in six different places.
