Not on Auto!
Technophobe and I went on a Beginners’ Photography Course today at Coughton Court. The aim was basically to move away from the “Auto” setting on our cameras – or as TP told the instructor “My aim is to be able to get ON to the Auto setting” because she always uses her I-phone. Nothing wrong with that – she has taken some superb photos with her I-phone, as have other people. In fact there are circumstances where I STILL think that you can get a better photo with a phone than a camera – or maybe that’s just me.
Anyway, we still both wanted to be introduced to the mystery of F stops and what all those other bits and pieces are on cameras, as we had both been told numerous times by our husbands and were still none the wiser. So off we went, with TP using Loosecanon’s “spare” camera, and me using my own which is the same make but a different (i.e. cheaper!) model.
We had a good day, and learnt a lot. I’m still not 100% sure of the “why” it does certain things, but I am determined to persevere and I promise that I will not switch my camera back to Auto or Program for at least until the end of October, after which time I may have got used to it enough to have been converted for good. Either that or revert back to my phone photography!
I took this during the afternoon, when we were walking around the grounds of Coughton Court (where the course was held) and practising what had been preached.
Thanks to all those who sent their good wishes to me yesterday when I was feeling "bleurgh". They must have worked as I felt much improved today - thank goodness, or I'd have missed the course. It can't have been Man-flu after all.
