The Neilson Hays Library
Here is another example of a fine European Heritage building in Bangkok. It was built in 1921 to commemorate the life of Jennie Neilson Hays by her husband Thomas.
This is an all English library with more than 20,000 books. It was built at a time when expatriates had no other means of reading English books or magazines. Times have changed! Now in Bangkok, we have many bookshops that sell English books. There are even two English dailies: The Nation & The Bangkok Post.
This is a lovely place to come and relax. Besides the main reading room, they also have conferences or art displays. It is next to the British Club, which caters for the library coffee shop in the garden
When I took this blip, I was lucky as there was a nice ray of sun. A few minutes later it poured! We are in the middle of the rainy season.
