Fred & Andy

Can Tho, Mekong Delta

We woke early with hangovers ... unfortunately we had a bus to catch so no choice and all self inflicted! Quick coffee then off to the bus station.

The bus journey was about 3 hours to Can Tho in the Mekong Delta. The transport here is pretty easy and organised. It looks absolutely chaotic but you book your bus, they pick you up from your hotel and then take you into the city centre at the other end if the bus station isn't close by. These aren't the local buses but are privately run and there are loads of companies so competitively priced. They are used by locals and tourists although we were the only non locals on this particular journey.

We arrived in Can Tho and were staying in a pretty nice hotel called Kim Long. This pic is from our hotel bedroom window and you can see the River Mekong. Can Tho is a busy little town which revolves around the river.

We booked on a trip to the floating markets tomorrow and then went off in search of food. Difficult! We ended up eating some odd dishes in a local place then picking up some bits and pieces from the night market as we were still hungry. Andy's vegetarian noodles were decidedly non vege ... there were dim sum type things in the soup which had pork meat in (we think) and some bits we think were liver. We did see some bbq rat today but decided to pass ... perhaps another time.
