Corporals' Belts

Firstly, thank you to everyone for the favourites and comments on my Shrike yesterday - apologies for not getting back to everyone, as I am operating on a flaky 3G signal here. The Shrike did all the work! According to the Suffolk birders blog, he's still there today putting on a good show.
I had an early start today, and had a wander across what is essentially our front garden here. This area of Sandling (Suffolk Lowland Heath) is simply stunning. It was a misty morning that burnt off in a matter of minutes, and you can just see the remnants of the mist here. I could hear a stag bellowing through the mist but didn't get a sighting of him.
After breakfast, we went off to do one of our favourite walks, through the woodland of the Kenton Hills, and along the beach to Sizewell. The plan was to lunch at the cafe there, which is always open - except this week!
We saw lots of birds, including Hobby, Kestrel and Buzzard in the woodland, where the air was also thick with dragonflies (mostly common darters) and along the shoreline we saw lots of skeins of migrating geese. We also got some tantalising glimpses of a pair of Black Redstarts on the power station.
We are having amazing weather - short sleeves t-shirts! The forecast for tomorrow is a bit uncertain. Fingers crossed as we are heading out to RSPB Havergate Island, just off Orford.
