Keep your Nose close to the Ball

Dogs dig holes everywhere. You know that. Dogs run after sticks and balls and other things thrown by their Masters or their Ladies, I know that. Who do you think I am? I happen to be the Master of the Late Great Bearded Moby Himself, did you know that? I’ll tell you what: on my daily walk at the seaside, I’ve seen hundreds of dogs of all kind&race&age&size running, walking, jumping into the surf or just backing off and refusing to get wet to please the master.

I’ve seen dogs jumping jolly in the waves to fetch an imaginary stick or preyball, a handful of sand - I do not like those manipulative Masters, I must say. But I had never seen a dog like this: trying to dig out a buried ball in the watery sands of the lowering tide. Then running down after the retiring wave and digging another “hole” on an other, lower spot, immediately filled with water, flooded. Herself being flushed and caught by the next wave, then emerging from the flood. And all the time she kept wagging her pointy tail.

Completely indifferent to the coming and going of the surf. Totally fixated on retrieving That Ball, that had to be somewhere because she Smelled It. She Knew the Ball to be There, she was just sticking to her Nose. So, her Lady&Master told me, as I was watching this fabulous Dedication Act with great fun, admiration and awe. It was a splendid Late Summer Afternoon. The swimming and the walking was relaxing. But this exceptional cute doggy stole my heart. She showed me what it means to be smart by following your Nose. Finally she found That Ball: great Fun for All.
