Spot Claire shivering amongst the rocks

On the north side of the Dents du Midi is this high mountain lake which, at this time of the year, gets no sun till late afternoon. We walked up in the shadow, picnicked in the shadow and were glad to set off back down despite the lake's stark beauty. One of the treats of this time of year as you go through the forests lower down, is the sound of the stags in rut, bellowing loudly to their harems! You do not see them, especially as it is also the hunting season, they hide in the trees!
