Figs

I bought some figs today because I absolutely love them! Then I realised that I had intended to link my blip to my poetry course and from the dark recesses remembered one particular poem!

"Every fruit has its secret.
 The fig is a very secretive fruit.As you see it standing growing, you feel at once it is symbolic :And it seems male.
But when you come to know it better, you agree with the Romans, it is female."

If any imagist poet was going to write a very erotic poem about figs, it was going to be D.H. Lawrence. I'm not including a link for the whole poem - he does get a bit carried away ; and I don't think anyone with feminist tendencies would approve!
