Tiny Bird
Watching the tiniest birds supping on the bottlebrush (I absentmindedly referred to as banksia a few days ago), the characteristic I find fascinating is they rarely settle for any length of time sufficient to photograph them on a whim. A few times without any luck I have equipped myself with chair & all weather gear, a cup of tea and a false moustache. No, no, no kidding about the moustache. These birds will know me in a crowd scene.
This time one settled for long enough for me to get excited I might be able to find out what this birdie is. It really is tiny. The image top RHS in which it's intent with its head down shows how tiny the top of its head is. This really is a bird brain. I wonder how long they have been a distinct species. If any of them were around in the era of dinosaurs I suppose I'd be looking sharp and keeping on moving. Thinking of their tiny structure relative to the great birds of the then sky with their massive wingspan, I was reminded of plankton in the ocean.
