I'm a sucker for a market.
Dad drove us into Chania so that we could go a wander round the market and Sam could find something to make us and Dad's neighbours for dinner.
Everyone was really friendly. The fact that Sam had a baby strapped to his front may have helped. Gorgeous looking produce for a fraction of the cost that would would pay back home. Sam ended up picked up some sea bream.
Went for a lovely drink round the other side of the Fort in Chania and popped into a hotel that dad had stayed in previously to say hi. An amazingly friendly woman called Maria on the reception desk remembered dad and cooed over Dexter. We were allowed to go up to the roof terrace and take in the views of the harbour.
Dad then took us back to to car by an incredibly circuitous route (despite many protestations, he insisted on showing us the old town) which led to a bit of a falling out.
We put disagreements behind us for the evening and had a really nice night. Dave and Jackie, dad's neighbours, came round while Sam cooked. Food and drink and chat. Now that's what a holiday's all about.
