The gate to nothing

Today I went here (links to location on Google Maps). I wanted to take some cool shots of the sea, but because of the mist and the fact that I had no clue where the best location would be, I failed.

It was not a total failure, though. The mist presented some different opportunities and I liked being alone at the end of a jetty in the mist. Because the tide was low there were no waves at all and the only sounds that you could hear were made by ducks and gulls. At the end of that jetty I found what you're currently looking at. It looked like a gate to absolutely nothing... For a larger version, click here.

After a couple of shots the camera battery was dead and I had to return to my car. On the way back I passed two train engines I had spotted earlier on my way to the jetty. Much to my surprise the battery seemed to have some life left in it and I was able to take some shots of both engines, including this runner-up for todays blip.

Quite a few lessons learned today:

1. Location, location, location: know where the good places are.

2. Find out about the tides: there are some handy tables for that; I should have known it was low tide when I arrived at the jetty.

3. Check gear; charge batteries. Yes, I had my spare battery with me but what good does it do when it's not charged?

4. Check the fuel level of the car. Almost ran out of fuel today too...

In short: prepare!

The lessons above are probably only for me; I bet you're smarter than me! Enjoy your Sunday; tomorrow it's back to work...
