One Hundred Years Ago
I stole the idea of a photograph from a photograph from a man in South Africa who posted a picture of his parents on their wedding day about 100 years ago.
I found this photograph in my grandmother's scrapbook. It is a studio shot, obviously, but there is no information about the subjects, occasion or location. The first Brownie camera was introduced in 1900 but this is not a Brownie photograph. A faint "May 1910" is visible on the back. I see a small family resemblance to the young woman in the middle.
I suspect these young women are younger than they appear in their austere dresses; mid-20s, perhaps. They must have "rats" in their hair to achieve such an astonishing hair style and surely corsets under their clothes which are surely their "best".
