New Zealand Flax flower

Way back in the early Summer I posted a blip of the tall flower spike which had appeared on our flax and estimated the height at 12 feet. As part of the Autumn garden clearing I cut down the spike today and found it only measures 11 feet 6 inches, and I couldn't cut it to the ground!
