Snapping Turtle. GX1, Leitz Telyt-V 200mm.
M and I went for a walk along the river near the weir which has yielded so many Blips in the past. I was concentrating on a Great Blue Heron (previously Blipped here) which was having some luck with little fish being swept over the weir when M noticed this large (~20") Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina) trying to make his way against the strong current up and over the weir. Ultimately he didn't succeed after several minutes of ascending and being washed back, but he was there just long enough to Blip before diving back into a deep hole below the falls.
