Bearded batten.
Beside the outback country road,
an old boundary fence does stand,
keeping sheep and cattle on the hills
and off the dusty gravel,
the posts and battens are hewn from the bush,
not treated with some chemical stuff,
allowing wind born spores to land,
so on the faces of the battens,
a beard of lichen grows.
