The Skipton Turnpike

This signpost is at a crossroads on the Skipton to Addingham Turnpike (formally a Roman road)
The destination indicated on the sunny side are Addingham and Skipton, and on the shady side, Draughton and Silsden.

The inscription has been made without planning the fit of the names to the space available, so that , for example, the last letter of Skipton is a superscript, and Addingham has the "am" missing.
Clearly not a stonemason, just a bloke with a chisel.
We had just come the 2 miles from Addingham, and then went down to the village of Draughton, where we stopped for our picnic lunch, before heading back to Addingham again.
A 7 mile walk, which finished off at the church hall, for tea and cakes.
Tea 50p and all cakes £1 each. Can't beat that for value! ( The lemon cake was delicious!)
Fine weather and quite warm and humid, although no sun.
Excellent for the end of September. However did notice the river was very low.
We need some rain!!!
