A Bridge Too Far
Doors Open day; after an unnecessarily fraught negotiation to actually have a Saturday with the boys, we woke to blue skies.
Breakfast and out on the bikes to the lighthouse at Leith; from there we slowly meandered back through the flats / wilderness, took in Asda, Newhaven harbour and Alien Rock. Tom has long been interested, mostly as G went for a long while.
We stuck our heads round the corner; peered in and we'll discuss going properly at some point.
Then we got home; devoured pasta / bacon / broccoli / chicken / white wine / crème fraiche / parmesan / squeeze of lime juice / sprinkle of thyme and jumped on a bus up town. We got to Tiger in the St Jamesy Centre to restock on bath toys, then walked up to Talbot Rice, Playfair Library, the power centre at George Square, very brief encounter with her and then wound up at the fire station. No Doors Open day with boys can be done without either the firestation or the bus garage.
Then home; dropped them back; had an enlightening conversation in the garden and went home to sleep, change beds, hoover, remove sticky paw prints.
Then out around 9, armed with shiraz, pork and cider casserole and Spanish bean stew.
A mesmeric evening of food, quiet drink, chat and company. Something clicked somehow.... Just in a place, a bubble of our own. Quite magical. And home around 1; collapsed.
