Sled Dog Racing

It's the 2nd day of the N.Z. IceFest 2014 in Ch-Ch. It is celebrating the city's special connection with Antarctica. Went to Nth Hagley Park this morning to see the Sled Dog Racing. Cold temperatures and a cold wind was what the Huskies were enjoying and the other breeds seemed to be alright too.It was interesting. the course was quite long and had a number of straights and bends. The contestants rode either a bicycle or a scooter with bike wheels, which the dog/s were harnessed to, they could use their foot like one normally does when riding a scooter. Some teams consisted of 1,2 or 4 dogs.. the 4 dog team were harnessed to a 3 wheeled bike. The contestants in the races were started at about 30-60sec intervals. You could meet and pat some of the Huskies. the fur was so soft and thick, and their facial markings and blue eyes were stunning...
