Glamis Castle
Glamis Castle is a magnificient building consisting of a greatly extended 14th century keep. It was altered to an L-plan in the 16th century, which was extended again in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. It is the family seat of the Earls of Strathmore. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, who died in 2002, came from this family, and spent a lot of her girlhood in the castle.
We were up at Carnoustie today, and came home via Glamis, and the castle looked lovely in the late afternoon sun. On the way home we passed lots of buses and cars parked in farmers' fields, which had been turned into parking lots for the duration of the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles. They had a fine day for their golf.
