The Regimental Colours.
A moth-eaten rag on a worm-eaten pole it does not look likely to stir a man's soul,
'T'is the deeds that were done 'neath the moth-eaten rag,
When the pole was a staff, and the rag was a flag.
(Sir Edward B Hamley)
Today was a big adventure to England from my little Island, up to Winchester for the Royal Hampshire Regiment (1702-1992) 68th post war reunion of the 4th 5th 6th 7th and 8th (Isle of Wight Rifles) territorial battalions, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the 7th battalion in action in Normandy 1944, and the D-Day landing by the 1st battalion The Royal Hampshire Reg (The Tigers)
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man as modest stillness and humility,
But when the blast of war blows in the ear,
Then imitate the action of the tiger.
William Shakespeare, Henry V.
