Smug

He is looking smug because he and his partner have built their nest less than two metres from the bird table and they get first choice of any goodies I place there. This is rather like living next to a fastfood outlet- so handy to slip next door when you can’t be bothered to cook a proper meal, and not necessarily healthy. To be fair he does hunt for worms. I see him taking bunches of squirmers into the nest for his lady. A quick peek while she was off the nest confirmed my suspicion that she is sitting there patiently awaiting her first egg.

He has other commitments too. If it’s not the foe on the west side of my garden then it’s the invader on the east side, as it was today. But he remains smug, knowing that those blossoms beside his nest will one day become plums ripe for the picking.
