Autumnal moths continued...

It was a good night in the moth trap last night! and at long last this little beauty turned up!
The Large Ranunculus moth (Polymixis flavicincta)is one of my favourite autumnal moths, which I usually manage to catch in my trap in September, but I was a bit worried that my garden population may have dwindled out, as it was rather late making a show this year!
It is a variable species, mainly distributed in Southern England, (although it does occur furter to the north, but mainly in the east) in suburban habitats. Where it does occur the larvae can become a pest, but I have never seen it in large numbers.
I think it is a beautiful moth, neatly designed to blend in with it's background.
It is cloudy again tonight, so I am hopeful for more treasures tomorrow morning!
