Democracy Day
As part of Fresher's Week at UEA today was designated 'Democracy Day' where several campaigning organisations were invited to each have a stall on campus to raise awareness of what they did and how people could get involved. Some of my friends from Norwich People's Assembly took advantage of this opportunity and I nipped along at lunchtime bearing a bumper bag of Maltesers to show my support, which was much appreciated.
As you can see here, they had some publicity available about the forthcoming 'Britain Needs a Pay Rise' march and rally organised by the TUC which is taking place in London on the 18th October. Coaches are being organised from all over the country and I will be on one of them, together with the 14 year old son of one of my friends who is being home educated. It'll be a great opportunity for him to learn at first hand why people take to the streets and what messages they carry with them.
Unfortunately the Democracy Day wasn't that well attended as publicity hadn't been great and building works around the building where the stalls were didn't exactly make it easy to find the entrance. In the main square on campus, however, the house plant sale was doing a a roaring trade. So that's alright then.
