Temperance

Today we visited the last original temperance bar - no, honestly we did. It is in Rawtenstall and we came here via a tram from Manchester and then a mooch around Bury market where we enjoyed hot black pudding and then a nice cup of coffee. From here to Bolton Street railway station and on a train pulled by a steam engine to Rawtenstall. Although the temperance movement is thought to be dormant we couldn't find an open pub in Rawtenstall but we had a lovely glass of cordial in Fitptarick's and then meat pies from a local bakery which we enjoyed al fresco before hitting the bar at the East Lancs station which, it turns out, is highly thought of by CAMRA and has half a dozen cask beers - lovely jubbly.
