The building on the left was the Liverpool College of Art, which John Lennon attended. The building on the right used to be the Liverpool Institute where Paul McCartney went to school. These two have now become LIPA, the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, which was co-founded by,and has been very generously supported by, Paul McCartney. Good on yer Macca. Two of the guitar cases in the foreground "belong" to Paul McCartney and Stuart Sutcliffe. Meanwhile a new Art school has been built nearby and has been named the John Lennon building.
