Bake off

After watching the Great British Bakeoff last night, I was inspired to bake my first victoria sponge cake. It was a domestic day with me baking and my husband gardening (under my instruction of where to plant everything!) then some tidying before some friends came over for dinner. We had raclette for dinner which is always fun (its a Swiss tradition, where you all use an electric grill in the centre of the table to melt your individual portion of raclette cheese with toppings of your choice such as pieces of potato, gherkins, meat and eat it together with bread). My friends had never tried it before so I enjoyed teaching them how to do it and we all ate far too much cheese. It nice that nobody has to stand in the kitchen cooking, everyone sits together choosing what to put with the cheese.

This is a photo of the cake I baked, with my garden (with the addition of the new flowers and plants) in the background.
