fiendish horsey

Continuing with the equestrian fabled beast series I present you Ocypus olens also known as Devil's Coach Horse. Spotted this relatively large beetle scuttling along the road. Quite trick to photograph with the wee camera as it is very swift. It raises its rear up when annoyed. Unfortunately, I missed all those shots - so this is the best one of the lot. They are nocturnal and prey on worms and other insects. Apparently quite common but I haven't seen that many.
