Solace Day 9: Rowing in Leicester.
I wasn't looking forward to the passage through Leicester, "The Mate" lived there 50 years ago and fished the canals. He wasn't very compli9mentary about the place. We wouldn't have been intending to stop anyway as we try to only visit civilisation for shopping while on the canals.
We were very pleasantly surprised to find Leicester (at least what we could see) to be very clean tidy and modern. Things obviously change in half a century. I took a lot of shots going through the city but this one appealed because it shows how the Canada Geese aren't bothered by much. Until it nearly runs them down that is. I find the colour of the bridge reflected in the water interesting.
We managed to avoid running any of the rowers down but I am convinced they have no concept of how long it takes 25 tonnes plus to manoeuvre or slow down.
We cruised through the city and into the country mooring just below Sileby Lock on the River Soar, so that we could buy diesel from the little boatyard there in the morning..
