Day 42: Seeing Is Believing?
My friend's masseuse from yesterday offered to be our tour guide for the day, in exchange for working. We just had to pay 1000B for the time off, gas to cover the trip, and whatever tip we felt worthy.
The tour started with an early morning wake up to drive an hour into the mountains of Chiang Rai to visit more hot springs. Then we went to see elephants, snakes, and monkeys; unfortunately, it also started to rain, so we opted to head back towards the city instead.
For lunch, we stopped at this quaint, local park, where we sat by the water and enjoyed some fresh fruit and hot tom yam soup. Next to our hotel, we had to visit the 3d art museum, Chiang Mai Art In Paradise, which is a must see. Best two hours spent in a museum, ever! I couldn't even pick one photo as my favorite, cuz they were all so fun. It sure makes you question what you see and proves that seeing is not always believing.
And speaking of questionable sights, it was an ongoing topic of discussion whether or not our tour guide is a woman. My friend subtly interrogated her to no end, trying to extract some gleaning of information.
When we finally joined up with a new friend we met on the plane, he unequivocally affirmed that "she" was indeed a man. Or at least, at one point started out that way. We weren't that intent in finding out for sure.
So, our "lady boy" guide took us out for a night on the town, which ended up to be quite an amusing adventure. We did want to experience Thailand in all its raw glory. Well, we can't say we didn't get what we asked for!
