Doubtful Sound
We drove to Manapouri this morning to begin our Doubtful Sound overnight trip. To get to the Fjord we had a boat trip across Lake Manapouri then take a coach over the Wilmot Pass and then we joined our boat for the overnight trip. There were about 50 people on the trip and they seemed like a nice group. We also had a nature guide and the crew who all seemed like good fun. The weather was very moody today as you can see from the pic. After heading into the fjord we went out in kayaks for a bit then had a dip in the fjord ... freezing!
After a hot shower, some hot soup, a few drinks and chatting with other guests we had a lovely dinner and an informative (if a little dull) nature talk by the nature guide. Oh yes, and saw a single Fjordland Crested Penguin swimming along!
We were moored up overnight on the fjord and it had been a tiring but fun day. The fjord is beautiful ... it feels very bleak and isolated on a day like today.
