Day 40: One Night In Bangkok
...and the world's your oyster...
Now that we've checked off "Full Moon Party" from our list, we make our way north to Chiang Mai, by way of Bangkok. We take the ferry back to the mainland from Koh Phangan, board a bus to the train station, then attempt to get a good night's rest on our overnight sleeper train to Bangkok. The operative word being "attempt".
Each sleeper carriage consisted of convertible seats and pull-down bunks with privacy curtains. No AC, just several rotating fans mounted to the ceiling that cooled the 20 passengers per car. It was a very loud, rickety, and bumpy ride. Also the window below my bunk wouldn't close all the way, so I had to block the draft and bugs from entering.
Next time, we're taking the bus.
