Remembering Barrow
I'm always pleased to get reference to polar exploration into my blips.
This is the memorial to Sir John Barrow who masterminded lots of Britain's Arctic exploration in the 19th Century, including Franklin's expedition to the Northwest Passage. John Barrow was born in Ulverston, and when he died the town (via public subscription) had a monument built for him on the top of one of the hills overlooking the town. The tower is a replica of the Eddystone Lighthouse.
