Govert Flinck (1615-1660) - Girl bij a high chair

An anonymous girl aged about three is posing next to a high chair. She's beautifully dressed and is wearing a garland of flowers on her head, gold chains and bracelets, and a gold rattle with rock chrystal. The parents of this toddler were obviously well-to-do.
Flinck painted with the broad, free brushstrokes he learned from his master Rembrandt. But he painted the child's face in great detail, with subtle colours and fine glimmers of light, so that it becomes the centre of attention.
