If you can't beat them...

Solace Day 6: Watford Gap Lock Pound.

We awoke to another beautiful flat, calm day on the canal.

Given our usual 8:30/8:45 start we were through the days first set of locks at Watford Gap by 9.30am. These brought back memories 37 years while on our honeymoon CC ran the Buttercup (our hire boat) aground in the pound between 2 locks (This pound). This was right up against the lock keepers cottage garden so I couldn't get to her to help. As she says she "knew how to do nothing but cry!" Fortunately the "Lockie" soon appeared with a long pole and solved the problem. I suspect she wasn't the first person who he had needed to rescue. Today there were no problems thankfully.

We had two tunnels the Crick Tunnel (1528 yards) and the Husbands Bosworth Tunnel (1166 yards)to go through, the feats performed by the "Navvies" back in the mid 1700s never fail to amaze me.

Weather wise this has been the best 6 days of weather we have ever enjoyed on the canals.
