"Before"

Getting new deck railings this week. They are meant to be starting work tomorrow, and dropped off a mini skip today. (We are wondering if the two old sofas in the garage that we have been trying to freecycle for ages, could be surreptitiously slipped into it?!!).

I know that in the photo the railings don't look that bad but they are wood and painted white. We live in the woods, and trees drop dark crud onto white railings. The top of the railing is full of holes, thanks to our friendly neighbourhood woodpecker. The painted railings were great when my parents used to come over every fall and needed something to keep them busy, but now it's just us, well, "Ooooh let's paint the deck railings this weekend" just never comes out of our lips!

So, now we are savvy, having had the house 14 years, we are having black (ha ha crud won't see you any more) aluminium (sorry about the bent beak woodpecker) no maintenance railings. Hurrah!
