Sports Day
Early start today - caught the bus to Gateshead where I went to the cinema. It was a free preview screening of What We Did on Our Holiday . It starred David Tennant, Rosamund Pike and Billy Connolly. The 3 children in it were excellent. I enjoyed the film even though it was rather predictable at times.
Mooched about Gateshead after the film. The weather was warmish but dull and cloudy.
This afternoon I did some tidying up in the garden. Filled up the green garden bin ready for collection on Tuesday.
Neil came here after work. Not that I've seen much of him. Straight up to his room and been there all evening.
The Forum Challenge today is Style on Sunday. So here you have a stylish? statue which is situated in Gateshead. It is called Sports Day and was unveiled in 1986. The artist Mike Winstone aimed to convey a view of sport which most people could identify with - one emphasising the excitement, enjoyment and optimistic exertions of a school sports day. It represents a figure in a sack race and also incorporates a reference to Aesop's fable of the race between the tortoise and the hare. It is 4 metres high. Originally it was multicoloured but it has been plain black for many years. Not sure if I like it but its certainly striking.
