Solace Day 3: Locks at Atherstone.

For me one of the joys of the canals is working the locks. If anyone is unsure of how a canal lock works there is a description here.

A lovely morning with the sun shining! CC sat with back to open front doors in the the chill air, she was to regret this later!

While working the locks at AthertonsI took my camera ashore with me and so you have a shot taken from one lock looking towards the next. The excercise proved difficult and a little risky for the camera so you may not get many more lock shots. As there were locks close together CC took the opportunity to go shopping and send a post card to her Mum. The weather was fantastic so we ate lunch on the foredeck/well deck (not sure which is the correct narrow boat term)accompanied by a glass of chilled wine.

Soon after lunch CC's back started to ache, presumably from the chill, luckily we had Paracetamols with us.

Soon after leaving Nuneaton we turned 360 degrees onto the Oxford canal and looked for a nice place to moor for the evening. The evening meal was also eaten on deck. We moored for the night at Carter's Bridge not far from the village of Ansty.
