Parting shot
Looking across to Scolt Head
Restraint (Douglas Dunn)
It lives in the body,
Interior clothing
Woven under nakedness
On constant looms. Textile
Animal, it feeds on words,
Evasions that trick
What might have been
To what was never tried.
It laughs its head off
At funerals, is safe
And satisfied, the only
Creature ever satisfied.
A long course in freedom
Hurts it. It cries out
And makes you tell lies.
