Fire!

The re-enactment of the Battle of Prestonpans(21 September 1745) took place this weekend. The significance and importance of the battle is often overlooked in the history of Scotland. It was the first significant battle of the Jacobite uprising in 1745 and a defeat for the government army of George II. The battle re-enactment was loud and fierce with lots of smoke from firelocks and canon. The camps of both the Hanovarian and Jacobite troops was an added attraction with authentic food cooking on open fires with soldiers and camp followers making and mending uniforms and other clothing.
