Cheese and pickle fest

This afternoon we cycled over to Coughton Court where there was a “Cheese and Pickle Festival” being held. All sorts of things were going on there: obviously many cheeses and pickles which could all be tasted as well as purchased, also breads and olives, various country crafts, Regency dancing, and there was also live music playing.

I wonder, did they wear sunglasses in Regency times, like these dancers?

Altogether it was a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon in the sunshine. We bought some very tasty Parmesan cheese (or to be more precise “Parmigiano-Reggiano”) and a tub of olives. We also spotted some crates of cooking apples where you help yourself and then pop some money into the honesty box. I’d had to abandon my second batch of blackberry and apple jam at home, for lack of apples, so we bought some Blenheims ready to finish the jam off later. Luckily I’d put a small rucksack on my back, so by wearing my waterproof for the short journey back home, we managed to get everything crammed in.

There were queues of cars waiting to get into the car park, and as one left they were allowing another in. We saw many vintage cars going in and out and also several passed us on the way there. It was rather nice to cycle past them all on our bikes without any queueing.

No bike racks though I'm afraid. I can predict another letter to the National Trust!
