Stage 1 & 2
Today we did our longest walk to date of 25 kms over Stage 1 and 2. It was overcast with a breeze so perfect conditions even though it was 29 degrees! It was a beautiful walk and one I will come back to at a more leisurely pace.
Stage 1 - after a steep hill you walk along the reservoir (High Island reservoir) . This reservoir was created by using dams to join an island to HK and then drained out the sea water. A huge feat of engineering and there is a memorial to the men who lost their lives building this. This is taken at the edge of the reservoir looking out to sea.
Stage 2 - you walk up and down hills (HK is far more hilly than you would ever think it could be) but in between times you walk across white sand beaches and it had glorious views of sea and headlands. The last 8 kms are much less dramatic and mostly uphill (well it felt like that!!)
There were so many pictures I could have chosen but I went with this one because the reservoir was so much more than I expected.
