Clouds Gathering Above the Two Thumb Range, Tekapo

After last night's cancellation of our Alumni Association starlight tour up on Mount John, we were lucky to still have our historical tour around the summit this morning, hosted by the irrepressible founder of Earth and Sky, Graham Murray.

Graham's tour is an interesting one; walking around the track that circles the summit of Mount John, he outlines the history of the area, from Maori settlement to the lawless James Mackenzie, sheep rustler extraordinaire and the man after who the district is named. With his witty delivery and repartee, he really brings the past to life.

The threatened snow overnight on the mountain did not transpire, so our trundling through the tussocks wasn't as cold on the tour as it may have been. Having said that, the surrounding higher peaks did have a further dusting of the white stuff, and plenty more seemed to be gathering.

Today's blip is from just beneath the summit of Mount John, looking towards the peaks of the Two Thumb Range at the head of Lake Tekapo.
